Nothing lasts forever, and printers are no exception. I have an old Epson that I purchased at a garage sale for $2.00. I loved it, and it served me well for a couple of years. Unfortunately, it has become more and more persnickety the last few months.
My husband bought me a brand new Epson Work Force for our 18th wedding anniversary last month. I told him that I needed a new printer, and he chose a very nice one for me. I just haven’t had a chance to set it up until yesterday.
I stayed home sick from work yesterday due to an unpleasant reaction that my dinner had with my one of my medications. Around 2:00 a.m. I thought I was going to die. I had a sharp debilitating pain in my lower back and abdomen simultaneously. I thought maybe it was gas and ate some antacids. That’s when my life got interesting. It turns out that grapefruit isn’t the only fruit to be cautious of if you take certain medication. Suffice to say, I didn’t join the living until around 1:00 p.m. yesterday.
I can’t stand to stay home and do nothing. There’s so much that needs attention that I feel compelled to accomplish at least one task on a day I’m home. Given that I was still pretty puny, I decided that I would set up my new printer. How hard could it be? Turns out, I really wasn’t up for it, and it took me three hours to figure it out.
I read the instructions first, but seem to have missed the section on skipping the fax function setup. I won’t use the fax function, but got stuck in that menu. I just couldn’t seem to figure it out. I messed with it and messed with it before finally just turning the thing off. Fortunately, that cleared the screen and let me try again. I finally got the printer set up after many attempts. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not technologically savvy. My poor ailing brain had more trouble than usual this time. However, the important part is that I accomplished one task while at home. I won’t lose sleep over a completely wasted day now.
I’m excited to take my new printer for a spin. I have several pages that I need to print for my critique group, and I think this Work Force will probably be much faster than my old printer. I may have trouble keeping up with technology, but at least I’m an honest enough person to admit it.
